the 5th General Assembly of the Union of Private Television in Africa – A Landmark Event Supporting Media, Peace, and Development

the 5th General Assembly Forum of the Union of Private Television in Africa (UTPA) in 2025 — a milestone event anticipated to be the most prominent in the Union’s history in terms of member participation and the critical issues on its agenda. The assembly aims to advance African media and enhance its contribution to peacebuilding and sustainable development across the continent.

The forum’s proposed agenda tackles a wide spectrum of strategic topics, including digital transformation and the challenges of transitioning from analog to digital broadcasting, promoting media freedom and independence, and fostering cooperation in media content production and exchange.

Key sessions will also address capacity building and training for media professionals, combating disinformation and hate speech, and enhancing regional and international partnerships — especially with media institutions in GCC and the Arab world — to support knowledge-sharing and access to funding and technical resources.

A special focus will be placed on governance and transparency within UTPA, as well as adopting new strategic frameworks that empower private broadcasters to play a stronger role in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and promoting social peace and economic growth.

This landmark assembly reflects UTPA’s renewed vision to position African private media as a cornerstone of the continent’s future — through strong partnerships, culturally authentic content, and policies that uphold independence, professionalism, and innovation.
