The Union of Private Televisions in Africa, today, Thursday, September 11, 2025, issued a strong condemnation of the Israeli airstrikes that targeted personalities and buildings in the Qatari capital, Doha, last Tuesday. The Union condemns this act as a blatant violation of international law and a serious transgression against a sovereign state and a member of the United Nations, which has always played a crucial role in global peace efforts.

The Israeli military operation, carried out under the pretext of targeting Hamas leaders, is considered an unprecedented aggressive act against a sovereign state. This violation directly undermines the territorial integrity of Qatar and disregards the fundamental principles of international cooperation and diplomatic norms. The Union expresses its strong condemnation of this targeting and considers it a blatant disregard for regional stability and peace.

As an organization committed to promoting peace and stability throughout the African continent and beyond, the Union of Private Televisions in Africa highly values Qatar’s positive and constructive role as a global mediator. For more than two decades, Qatar has leveraged its position to facilitate dialogue in conflicts where traditional channels have failed. Its credible mediation efforts include securing a ceasefire in the Yemeni conflict, mediating the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur, and mediating the historic agreement between the United States and the Taliban movement, among other contributions.

Recently, Qatar’s role as a mediator in the Middle East has been pivotal and indispensable in ongoing efforts to secure a ceasefire in Gaza and facilitate the release of hostages of various nationalities. These efforts are not only humanitarian but also a fundamental element within the framework of global security. The Union of Private Televisions in Africa believes that Qatar’s actions are fully consistent with the Union’s vision of promoting development and peace through media, and presenting a positive and true image of civilizations dedicated to solutions and dialogue.

The Union of Private Televisions in Africa calls upon all its members, including its affiliated private radio and television channels and media professionals, to shed light on this important issue. We urge our members to use their news bulletins and programs in all Union languages to expose this grave violation of international law, and to amplify the message of peace, dialogue, and the crucial role of mediators.

Dr. Aboubakar Mohamed Abdallah

President of the Union
