In a step that strengthens the role of independent private media across the African continent, the new Executive Board of the Union of African Private Televisions (UTPA) has been officially elected.
The Union was established with the aim of representing the interests of private-sector television stations in Africa, enhancing media cooperation among them, supporting press and media freedom, and advancing the quality of media content that serves the peoples of the continent.
During the founding procedures, members of the new Executive Board for the 2026–2030 term were elected. The board includes a distinguished group of media professionals from across Africa, as follows:
- President: Mr. Abubakr Mahmoud Abdallah Bargo
- Vice President for Francophone Africa: Mr. Abdelrahman Mostafa
- Vice President for Anglophone and Arabophone Africa: Mr. Hatim Al-Tag Yousif Abdallah
- Secretary-General for External Relations: Mr. Gambaye Ndjigoultar
- Deputy Secretary-General for Social Media Affairs: Ms. Lou Maimouna
- Treasury Secretary-General: Mr. Mahmoud Saleh Hussein
- Deputy Treasury Secretary-General: Ms. Ababa Eve Amro Baba
- Mobilization and Information Officer: Ms. Roman Raisa Fatima
- Projects Officer: Ms. Vimmelon Carole
On this occasion, Mr. Abubakr Mohammed Abdallah, President of the Union, expressed his delight at this important milestone, saying:“The establishment of the Union of African Private Televisions marks a pivotal moment in the history of private media across our continent. We stand before a historic opportunity to unify our efforts and strengthen the voice of a free and professional media that reflects the aspirations of our African peoples
